The Return of the Double Digit Rate Increases?

After several years of health insurance cost increases in the low single digits, there are signs that rates will be increasing in the double digits this year. While the media headlines of 30%-plus increases primarily refer to individual plans, the early 2010 renewals for group plans have rate increases that are significantly higher than they have been in the past few years; many in the double digits. Although each employer’s situation is unique, the early trend is clearly toward higher healthcare costs in the coming year.
